Protection of certain forest ecosystems and habitats is important. In general though, sustainable management of Acadian forests will not deplete carbon stocks and can restore forest stands that have been degraded as a result of past mismanagement. Having a market for low grade wood removed is essential for the successful implementation of ecological forestry. If woodlot owners profit from the management of their forests, the land is more likely to remain forested.
